Here are a few highlights of fun summer activities at Grand Targhee, and some great homes you can stay in while you visit.
Mountain Biking at Grand Targhee
One of the most popular reasons to visit Grand Targhee in the summer is for mountain biking. Throughout the summer, Grand Targhee turns into a mountain bike mecca for both downhillers and cross-country riders.
With spectacular singletrack trails winding through wildflower meadows and miles of technical, lift-serviced downhill trails, Grand Targhee has established itself as the first downhill mountain bike destination in the Tetons.
Explore over 2,000 vertical feet of chair lift-serviced downhill and 70-plus miles of multi-use trails for cross country and downhill mountain biking, as well as hiking and horseback riding. The bike park offers every style of riding for every level of mountain bike rider: Gentle, banked cruisers; tight and twisty singletrack, cross country; gnarly, rock-strewn downhill; drop-offs; and much more.
During the summer months, when temperatures are soaring everywhere else, the Ghee and the Tetons might be the most extraordinary, cool temperature riding in the nation. For more details, maps, and guides to local area mountain biking, check out Mountain Bike The Tetons.
Hiking and Trail Running
Grand Targhee is also perfect for beautiful day hikes and trail running with larger-than-life views of the Teton peaks. You can hire a guide for a personal tour of the mountain and learn more about the local flora and fauna along the way. Or you can take a scenic chair ride to the top where trails range along the summit offering amazing views of the west side of the Teton range.
Kid’s Fun Zone & Kid’s Summer Camp at Grand Targhee
Grand Targhee’s summer Kid’s Fun Zone offers a bungee trampoline, rock climbing wall, and mining as just a few of the activities available while visiting the resort. Grown-up kids can participate too! If you really love the idea, there’s an all-inclusive Activity Pass that includes a Scenic Chair Ride lift ticket, a climb session on the Climbing Wall, a Bungee Trampoline session and a 2-lb bag of Prospector Mining Rough to pan through for gemstones and treasure at the GTR Mining Co.
For those who are planning a long stay in Teton Valley, there’s also the Kid’s Summer Camp, perfect for 6-12 year olds. Our camp is designed to keep your children active and learning this summer. Daily activities include biking, biking instruction, swimming, disc golf, arts and crafts, music, chairlift rides, hiking, Gheecology (nature study of Grand Targhee), group games, and more.
There’s also a bungee-trampoline and climbing wall for kids of all ages. Test your skills at wall/rock climbing and practice tricks and flips on the resort’s bungee- trampoline hybrid. The climbing wall is ideal for first-time climbers, children and those with experience alike.
Targhee Bluegrass Music Festival
The Annual Targhee Bluegrass Festival is held every year in the month of August. This famous festival has been going for more than three decades and draws bluegrass fans from around the world. Started in 1988, the Targhee Bluegrass Fest is the Grand Daddy of Bluegrass Festivals in the Northern Rockies, combining great Bluegrass with the ultimate mountain lifestyle. Grand Targhee Resort’s Bluegrass Festival has been a mainstay for Bluegrass aficionados for over two generations with stage appearances by artists and performers during that span that highlight the best in the industry.
Finding Your Zen at Grand Targhee
If you’re looking for something a little less physical, how about a scenic chair lift ride followed by yoga at the summit? A relaxing massage or floating in a pool while admiring the view might also sound pretty good, too. Grand Targhee offers a variety of zen-inducing activities like these and more.
