Teton Valley, Idaho is known for providing a winter wonderland that attracts travelers from around the world. The outdoor adventure opportunities are out of this world! But did you know we also have annual events that are worth checking out and scheduling your trip around?
Annual Snowscapes Snow Sculpting Competition
For starters, you have to check out the Annual Downtown Driggs Association’s Snowscapes event, traditionally scheduled at the end of January each year. This annual snow sculpture competition turns the city plaza into an outdoor art gallery. This free event brings winter to life with snow sculptures of all shapes and sizes (some are massive!) that are created over a span of five days by teams of talented sculptors from across the country.
This year brings an exciting update: Snowscapes is now recognized as the official Idaho Snow Sculpting State Championship!
The traditional Community Block Party and Snow Ball you may have known of in the past have been combined and reimagined as The Final Frost, a full-day celebration on Saturday at the end of the event week, from 10am to 7pm at Driggs Plaza.
The event honors the sculptors’ incredible work after a week of long hours, sometimes in sub-zero temperatures, and the day will be filled with fun events and activities including:
- A giant snow slide for the kids
- Voting for all categories with winners announced at 5 p.m.
- A quick-sculpt competition where artists race the clock to carve a masterpiece from a 4x4-foot block of snow
- Food trucks, giveaways, live music and more

The Grand Showdown annual skijoring event
One of the valley’s most anticipated events is Teton Valley Skijoring’s Grand Showdown. Held February 21–22, 2026, in Driggs at the Teton County Fairgrounds, this is an event that combines western fun, cowboys & cowgirls, skiers and snowboarders, and something that is rare to see and totally unforgettable!
Family-friendly, heart-pounding fun never happened so fast. Skijoring competitions and the community and fun that surrounds the weekend event is a wintertime spectacle of speed and skill. This high-speed, adrenaline-filled event features horse and skier teams racing through snow-packed courses.
Skiers are pulled behind galloping horses through a snow-packed course of jumps and gates—an unforgettable mix of athleticism, precision, and pure adrenaline.
Each year, thousands of spectators line the course to cheer on competitors and support a beloved community tradition. The event is entirely built and run by local volunteers, from course construction to safety coordination and competition management.
Proceeds and donations support course maintenance, horse and rider safety, volunteer training, and keeping competitor and spectator access affordable, so everyone can enjoy.
The event draws thousands of spectators each year, blending Western grit and mountain-town thrill in a celebration that’s as family-friendly as it is exciting.
